Instant Pot Butternut Squash

Instant Pot Butternut Squash is easily done in less than 10 minutes with this fantastic pressure-cooking recipe. You will only need your instant pot and a few ingredients including butternut squash, olive oil, and some water.

Ingredients

Option 1 - Cubed and Steamed:

  • 1 butternut squash peeled, gutted, and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup water

Option 2 - Cubed, Browned, and Steamed:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 butternut squash peeled, gutted, and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup water

Option 3 - Quartered and Steamed:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 butternut squash halved lengthwise, gutted, and quartered
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

Option 1 - Butternut Squash is Cubed and Steamed:

  • First, add a trivet onto the bottom of the Instant Pot. Next, add the water.
  • Place an oven-safe glass bowl onto the trivet and add cubed butternut squash to it.
  • Close and lock the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the pressure valve to seal.
  • Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes. After that, quickly release the pressure.
  • Carefully open the IP and remove the bowl with butternut squash.

Option 2 - Butternut Squash is Cubed, Browned, and Steamed:

  • Turn on the Saute function.
  • Add olive oil and once hot add the cubed squash, saute it for 4-5 minutes, or until browned. If desired, season with spices.
  • Remove from the pot into an oven-safe glass bowl.
  • Add a trivet onto the bottom of the Instant Pot. Next, add the water.
  • Place the bowl with squash onto the trivet.
  • Close and lock the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the pressure valve to seal.
  • Cook on high pressure for 1 minute only, since it was previously browned. After that, quickly release the pressure.
  • Carefully open the IP and remove the bowl with butternut squash.

Option 3 - Butternut Squash is Halved or Quartered and Steamed:

  • Add a trivet onto the bottom of the Instant Pot. Next, add the water.
  • Arrange butternut pieces onto the trivet.
  • Close and lock the lid on the Instant Pot and turn the pressure valve to seal.
  • Set Instant Pot to high pressure and cook for 8 minutes.
  • Quick-release pressure and remove butternut squash from the Instant Pot.
  • Use a fork to remove and mash the flesh.
