Honey Chicken Recipe

Honey Chicken is incredibly crispy and coated in a ginger-garlic honey glaze. It stays crunchy for hours!

  • 2 lbs chicken thighs skinless and boneless cut into 1" pieces
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 3 cups vegetable oil for frying


  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon Chinese cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoon cornstarch


  • 6 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 8 tablespoons COLD soda water or seltzer water
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Honey Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon Chinese cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic minced

Garnish & Serve:

  • White rice or brown rice
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions


Chicken and Marinade:

  • Mix Chicken and Marinade ingredients in a bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Add 1/4 cup of cornstarch and 1/4 cup of flour to a shallow plate and whisk to combine. Add about 8 chicken pieces, toss to coat, shake off excess, put on a plate. Repeat with all chicken.
  • Fill a large saucepan with about 2 inches of oil. Heat to 350°F on medium-high heat.


  • Mix all the Batter ingredients in a bowl, until almost no lumps are visible.
  • Drop 8 pieces of chicken into the batter. Turn to coat, then carefully place in the hot oil.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes until lightly golden and crispy, turning as needed, place on the rack to drain, and repeat with remaining chicken. Don't crowd the pot!
  • Cool the chicken for 20-30 minutes and make the Sauce.

Honey Sauce:

  • Place all the sauce ingredients in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to simmer, and simmer for 3 minutes.
  • Consistency should be like pancake syrup. Turn off the heat, add gently chicken and toss to coat.
  • Serve with rice, topped with sesame seeds and green onions!
