French Toast Bake Casserole

French Toast Bake Casserole can be prepared overnight and just popped in the oven in the morning. Sweet and tender it is a great way to use leftover bread.

  • 1 loaf sourdough bread or French Baguette


  • 8 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Crumb Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter cold and cut into small pieces


  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk or more
  • 1 cup strawberries


  • Grease a 9x13 inch pan and set aside.
  • Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and arrange them on the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • In a bowl, mix together all the MIXTURE ingredients. Pour mixture evenly over bread.
  • Cover the pan with Plastic Wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Add the butter pieces and using a fork combine until the mixture is crumbly. Place it in a Ziploc bag and refrigerate overnight as well.
  • When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Sprinkle the crumb topping on top of the bread.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or 1 hour depending on how soft you prefer the pudding.
  • Remove from the oven.
  • Mix powdered sugar with milk and drizzle the glaze over the bread, garnish with berries and serve.
