  • 10 slices of slightly stale bread cut in half or thirds
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted


  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest


  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg


  • Maple syrup
  • Butter
  • Fruits


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a rimmed baking sheet with a little butter or baking spray and set it aside.
  • Whisk together Egg Mixture in a bowl until smooth and well mixed.
  • Add all the Sugar Mix ingredients in a small bowl and stir to combine.
  • Soak each piece of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides well. Place in the pan.
  • Drizzle with melted butter and sprinkle with some of the Sugar Mix.
  • Transfer to the oven and bake 15 minutes on each side, until crispy and golden-brown.
  • Flip on the other side, drizzle with some butter and some of the Sugar Mix and bake for another 10 minutes, or until crispy and golden-brown.
  • Remove from oven and serve with butter, maple syrup, and fruits.
