Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cups cubed ham or leftover bone-in ham
  • 1 onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup diced carrot
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper or to taste
  • 1 pound dried split peas rinsed and sorted
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 2 small bay leaves
  • 8 cups chicken broth low sodium

Garnish:

  • Garlic croutons
  • Chopped parsley

Instructions

Sauté:

  1. Turn on the SAUTE function on HIGH and once it reads HOT, melt the butter and brown the ham for 507 minutes. If using a bone-in ham, remove it and set it aside. If using cubed ham, continue adding the ingredients to it.
  2. Add the onion and cook for 1-minute stirring. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Add the fresh herbs, Italian dried herbs, the vegetables, salt, and pepper and cook for 5 minutes.

Pressure-Cook:

  1. Add the peas, then the broth and bay leaves, close the lid. If using a bone-in ham add it back now. Pressure Cook for about 15 minutes. Then, perform natural pressure release for another 15 minutes.

Serve:

  1. If you used a ham bone, remove the bone. Shred any meat that is still on the bone. And then, return the meat into the pot.
  2. Remove the bay leaves and discard them.
  3. Serve topped with your favorite toppings.
