Strawberry Custard Filled Donuts

All you donut lovers can make your own custard filled donuts at home with this easy recipe. They have rich and creamy strawberry filling and a sweet sugar coating. 

Here's What You Need

Gather these ingredients to make these donuts: -Bread flour -Large egg -Instant yeast -White granulated sugar -Unsalted butter -Warm milk -Table salt For the custard: -Diced strawberries -Unsalted butter -Vanilla extract -White granulated sugar -Heavy cream -Cornstarch -Water -Sea salt -Egg yolks

STEP 1

First, whisk the egg with the warm milk before adding the instant yeast. Continue whisking until the yeast is completely dissolved.

Next, add salt, flour, and sugar to the yeast and stir with a spatula until it is combined. Add butter and work it in until it is smooth before kneading for another two or three minutes on a lightly floured surface. Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl for a few hours.

To make the custard, dice the strawberries and mix them with two teaspoons of sugar. Set them aside and heat up the milk, cream, and salt in a small saucepan on medium heat. Once it simmers, turn it off.

In a different bowl, beat the sugar and egg yolks until it is pale yellow. Then, add the warm milk into the egg yolk a little at a time, stirring constantly. Whisk the cornstarch slurry and add it to the custard mixture. 

Step 5

Now, pour the custard into the saucepan and cook over medium-low heat until it is thick and glossy. This takes about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add the vanilla and butter. Mix well and add the diced strawberries. 

Step 6

Put the custard in a bowl and cover with plastic so the plastic touches the surface. Let it chill for 3 to 4 hours. While you wait, punch the dough and fold it a few times on a floured surface. 

Step 7

Make eight balls from the dough and put them on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cover in plastic and let them rest for 30 to 40 minutes. 

Step 8

Next, fill a deep pan with 2 inches of oil and cook over medium-low heat until it reaches 350 degrees F. Now, fry a few donuts at a time, cooking for 2 minutes on each side. Then, remove them with a slotted spoon and let them cool on a wire rack. 

Step 9

After the donuts are cool, poke a hole in the side of each one with a long object like a chopstick. Set a bowl of sugar nearby and coat them on each side. Then, put the custard into a piping bag and squeeze it into the hole, filling it all the way.
