Crispy Chinese Orange Shrimp takes just 30 minutes to make. You can have a restaurant quality meal in the comfort of your home in just a few minutes. The shrimp is incredibly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Coated in the most delicious homemade Orange Sauce.

Here's What You Need

To make the Orange Shrimp in homemade Orange Sauce you will need: 2 pounds medium to large shrimp 1 cup cornstarch 1/2 cup canola oil Orange Sauce: 2 cloves garlic minced 2 tablespoons soy sauce 1/2 cup honey 1 orange 1/4 cup orange juice 1 tablespoon mirim 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

STEP 1

First, pat dry the shrimp and after that toss it in cornstarch. This will help create a crispy coating on the outside without making and egg and flour mixture for dipping the shrimp. After that, heat oil in a deep pan, once hot, fry the shrimp in batches until crisp. Set aside on a plate.

STEP 2

Next, discard the oil and in a small bowl combine the orange sauce ingredients: garlic, soy sauce, honey, orange zest, orange juice, Mirim and red pepper flakes. You can also you maple syrup instead of honey. In addition, you can make the sauce spicier by adding more red pepper flakes and a teaspoon of hot sauce. Cook the sauce stirring for 1-2 minutes.

STEP 3

Add the shrimp back to the pan and very gently toss to combine it with the sauce. Make sure that each shrimp is coated. Stir for a few minutes, until the sauce thickens. It will thicken quickly from the cornstarch coating on the shrimp. Serve with rice and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
